Professor Elisa Zentveld, PhD, is a Professor of Social Justice at Federation University. She was previously Associate Professor of Tourism and Management and Chair of Academic Board at Federation University, Australia. Elisa's previous academic work was published under the name of Elisa Backer. Elisa previously lectured at Southern Cross University; and before working in academe, Elisa acquired industry experience through working in management positions at three destination marketing organisations, working in finance, and managing the marketing for a large shopping centre complex. Elisa has particular research interests in events, family tourism, quality of life, family violence, and Visiting Friends and Relatives (VFR) travel and is ranked as the leading world expert in the field of VFR travel. She has published in leading international journals, and co-edited three books: Family Tourism (Channel View), The Future of Events and Festivals (Routledge), and VFR Travel (Channel View). Elisa is recognised for her research and teaching strengths, and has received awards to recognise her achievements. She is on the editorial board for 8 journals. Elisa is also a TEQSA panel expert, and has been a peer review for the Australian Research Council ERA, and Australian Awards for University Teaching. Elisa has a Bachelor of Economics, Graduate Diploma in Business Studies, Bachelor of Business in Tourism (honours), Graduate Certificate in Higher Education, and a PhD.
Her most recent book is called Control, Abuse, Bullying and Family Violence in Tourism Industries is the first book to highlight the ways in which family violence impacts the tourism system.
